Although we have tripods and a monopod most pictures are taken handheld or on a beanbag. When using the car as a hide a piece of pipe insulator fits nicely onto the open window as a cushion.

We have been experimenting with the Olympus, but are still trying to get the mount right.

A digital SLR such as the Canon EOS 350D and good lens should take better quality photographs than an ultrazoom or digiscoping, but is a more expensive and heavier option, especially if you buy additional lenses to cover options possible with the versatile lens of most ultrazooms.
